Presidential Candidate
Soonen Ahua
I like to think of myself as a simple guy from Lagos, Nigeria trying to make a difference in the world. I am currently a third year Mechanical Engineering student. I enjoy meeting new people and building lasting relationships. In my down time, not that I have much, I enjoy reading and listen to music, and discussing theology. I am a very active member in IIT's Student Government. Below are some of my relevant leadership experience as a candidate for SGA President.
Vice-President Academic Affairs, Student Government Association (April 2012- Present)
As Vice-President Academic Affairs, I serve on the Executive Board of SGA. In addition, I work on Projects with the Academic Affairs Committee. Some of the projects I have worked on this year include 24-hour Library hours the week before finals, IPad Printing and Midterm Evaluations. I am currently working with my committee members on a Reading Period before finals, expansion of the ARC, and changes to the course repeat policy.
Senator, Student Government Association (October 2011 - April 2012)
I served as a Senator on the Academic Affairs committee. I worked on a project that tried to make ARC review sessions available online.
Publicity Chair, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (January 2011 - Present)
As the Publicity chair of ASME, I'm responsible for ensuring that events are well publicized through print and other media. I work with a team of three people to develop original publicity materials for various events.
